About the Tools

Whereas Return on Investment (RoI) has attracted increased attention over the last couple of decades, little, if any, attention is being paid to whether companies do at all achieve Return on Strategy™ (RoS). Very refined methods have been developed for RoI, however RoS is in its infancy. Moreover, it is not possible to quantify the reality with the same means of measurements within the field of strategy as is the case within the field of investments.

Maybe this is why so many just gives up and leans towards one or more of the complacent attitudes:

We do not need to expend time on strategy, we act and do our work
It is anyhow impossible for us to measure the effects
Nobody in this organisation wishes to make a strategy evaluation
I’d just rely on the halo effect operating and forget and disguise the failures
However with the new tools readily available, there is no room for complacency.
